peter, did you see the catholic church, which is also in town area (short walking distance from the market)? it is a nice church, which will turn up good in photos i'm sure. i usually frequent the balik pulau laksa only when i goes to the church formation centre.

Lucia,
I have some shots of the church that I took during CNY. I especially like the stained glass.

Waves of fury beating on the shore,
Unimaginable heights terrify us to the core.

Man, woman, child it holds no discrimination,
Leaving behind utter chaos and mass devastation.

Suffering, bereavement, misery and sorrow,
How long must we endure this horror.

Lives lost, businesses perished and wrecked homes,
Stench of doom, still growing in loom.

What can we do in times like this,
Should we just stand by and not assist?

Please give your means to those in need,
This is the time to do good deeds.

Lastly, please say a prayer to all survivors of Tsunami,
May they have the strength to overcome this catastrophe.

I used to go back there when my grandma was still alive. She died 3 years ago.

I miss the "kau yok" at the corner shop in your picture.

Jiju,
That is a beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing.

Gina,
The Hakka call it "keu nyuk." Used to be one of my favourites but I have to eat it less often because of my blood cholesterol level. I did not know that shops sells this dish. Must check it out. Thanks.

TSUNAMI Cartoon: To warn the village below of a approaching TSUNAMI, an old man set fire to his rice fields

A Japanese TSUNAMI Tale, called, "The Burning of the Rice Fields." One old man saved the lives of his villagers from TSUNAMI by making a great personal sacrifice.
