Bloggers ‘r’ Us
June 20th, 2005 - Monday

Look who is gracing the front page of Star Two today. Suanie of As Suanie Sees It is featured prominently there with her trademark sweet smile. The article Bloggers ‘r’ Us interviewed five Malaysian bloggers – Aizuddin Danian, Suanie, Minishorts, Kenny Sia and myself. This write-up is a refreshing change from the controversy and bad publicity blogs have been getting of late. Good work Micheal!

June 20th, 2005 at 10:57
suanie,
Told you so!
June 20th, 2005 at 11:06
congrats to you peter! again appearing in the paper! (how many times already eh?).
yes, i agree with you, peter that this write-up (with the 4 bloggers personally relating their experiences) is indeed a refreshing change from the recent bad publicity blogs had been receiving. i hope the media will choose to feature more and more articles like this… and also get to interview jeff ooi esp. over his freedom blog award, and not zoom in on some ’sensationalism’ just to keep the readership up.

Malaysian Bloggers in The Star
Thanks to the Singapore Sarong girl(the nude blogger), Malaysian bloggers gained attention from local media. Last week News Strait Times published an article on news, theStar today published one too, titled “Bloggers ’r’ us” by Michael Cheang….

;D my pete jai, u fehmes liao. Must stick up for us. malaysian bloggers need u
June 20th, 2005 at 11:27
She looks SWEET!
Eh how come everyone posed in front of their computer screen and I’m the only one looking pissed?
June 20th, 2005 at 11:28
lucia,
Jeff Ooi is persona non grata in many local newsrooms. He is not getting the credit he deserves locally but we can see that his work is being recognised outside the country, the Freedom Blogs award being one of them.
frostier,
I will do what I can but are you not over-estimating my abilities?
Kenny,
That you must ask Michael. But isn’t that your trademark pose?
June 20th, 2005 at 11:37
Kenny, the moment I saw that photo, I thought…
“WHERE’s THE BIG BIRD??!!!”
June 20th, 2005 at 11:39
suanie,

Congrats on the interview =)

The Fame, the Shame
While the whole Malaysian blogosphere is in high spirits due to the acknowledgements from the local mainstream media, I wonder if anyone has asked the question why Jeff Ooi hasn’t been given any sort of coverage or interviews from both The Star and NST.
June 20th, 2005 at 12:42
Now thats more like it
June 20th, 2005 at 12:42

Paiseh? You looked so good there, even with your eyes showing only. On the other hand, that photo of me is very unflattering. Bah! Looking forward to meeting you on Thursday.

June 20th, 2005 at 15:12
Congratulations, read about it in the Star a moment ago. It’s refreshing that they finally details the webpages this time so people will actually who Malaysian Bloggers are. Glad you’re one of them that got highlighted, now Aunt Lilian must be saying why she never kena publicity one hehe. Keep up the good work.
June 20th, 2005 at 17:39
Sharon,
Thanks. Bloggers are beginning to get the attention that they deserve. We have moved in from the fringes. This is a good thing.
Kervin,
Thanks. I was at the right place at the right time. It is a good that local bloggers are being given such positive coverage. This certainly will encourage more to blog.

Malaysian bloggers feted
A couple of Malaysian bloggers were highlighted today in The Star: Tew Hui Suan, Peter Tan, Minishorts and Kenny Sia (who is very hilarious, IMHO). After stories about naked bloggers, obsessed bloggers, no-social-life bloggers, it’s a relief to have a…

Congratulations!
June 20th, 2005 at 22:55
just a quick one to say that I have it on very good authority that Jeff Ooi’s blog was NOT featured because the writer wanted to focus more on personal blogs and to show the REAL people behind the blogs, and thought these four bloggers were rather interesting to feature.

Life Feel,
Thanks.
sHee,
Thank you.
soohk,
Thanks.
syaf-the-geek,
I hope so. Blogging has multiple benefits. I have gained a lot from blogging.
viewtru,
Thanks.
eyeris,
The angle of this article focused on personal blogs. I agree that a socio-political blog would be out of place here.

Jiun Wuu,
Great bloggers? I just want to be what I was before this came out. The “great” tag comes with great expectations that I am afraid I am not able to live up to.
Juan,
Thanks. Well, the hair was flowing, but not ghost-like.
