I came a cross this site a moment ago while trying to gather some information. I'm a student. Currently doing a Final Year Project very much related to helping people with disabilities (may it be sensory disabilities or so) to travel independently. I came across this site and I was hoping if anyone could lend me a hand.

Dont worry I am not asking for financial assistant to finance my project ;p But I was hoping to get to know more about:
1. Act established in Malaysia to protect the disable individual while traveling
2. Problem faced by these individual while traveling in Malaysia's public transport
3. And any related issues..

Although I'm not sure I'll be able to do much to help these individual with my project but I do hope my research can actually do some changes in certain way such as to help this individual to travel independently.

You can reach me at sultaness_v@hotmail.com. Sorry for any inconvenient caused, thanks and have a nice day.

[...] To renew the passport, I had to pay RM1 for the form, fill it up, provide 2 copies of colour photographs, a photocopy of my identity card and the old passport. As a person with disability holding the Kad Kenal Diri Orang Kurang Upaya, I was exempted from paying the RM300 fee. I got a Welfare Officer from the Head Office of the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia to provide me with a letter for good measure for the RM300 exemption when I attended the Disability Equality Training in Kuala Lumpur recently.
LecturerUM,
While the main moving force of DET will be the disabled participants, we will also need a lot of support in the forrm of resources, funds and logistics from our own organisations and also the support of the State/District Welfare Departments to push this through. I would like to see us working together with the Welfare Officers to make this a prominent programme to be carried out on a continuous basis.

I hope the link between all DET trainees, especially the Welfare Officers and the Disabled Participants could be sustained and continued in order to do result-oriented and concrete projects together. For example, Disability Awareness training for senior level management of government bodies and service providers, tourism, transport, etc. If there is no follow through, we miss on capitalising what has been done and started, and the steam will be difficult to start again, and pick up again later. All the best.
