Serving More Than Soups of Kindness

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

The water pressure was low. Apparently, there was a burst pipe at 5th Mile Cheras. Wuan and I decided to have our dinner at the nearby coffee shop. It was just a five-minute walk away. We took a table outside the shop on the road. It was a tad dangerous with cars passing close by. We had no choice. There was no ramp up to the shop. After all, other patrons were also occupying the numerous tables beside us.

Just after Wuan came back with my food, raindrops started falling. Within moments, it began to pour. The other patrons ran helter skelter with their food and drinks into the shop. Wuan stood up, held my plate of economy rice in her hand and wondered what we should do. The owner of the koay teow soup stall ran out to get the plate from Wuan and took our drinks into the shop. At the same time, he advised us to look for a place to shelter from the rain.

Wuan pushed me around the corner and up the ramp of a car wash shop located just behind the coffee shop. The koay teow soup stall owner got his assistant to set up a table for us and then brought the food, now covered with another plate, and drinks over. He even went to the extent of wiping the rain-soaked table dry for us. I have met some kind people but he topped it all by going that extra mile even though he need not. We would have been contented eating on the wet table, happy that we had a place to continue with our meals away from the drenching shower.

Arrogance Or Ignorance?

After sharing with a Methodist about Roman Catholicism when we were together in Tokyo, he had this to tell me, “We follow the Bible.”

God bless you, my brother in Christ. I pray that you are reading from the right Bible.

Voiceless In Kuala Lumpur

View from my apartment window in Penang.
This is currently my laptop screen wallpaper.

When I woke up this morning, I had already lost my voice. It sounded different even when I coughed. All I can manage now are intelligible croaks and grunts. Fortunately, I breezed through the sore throat part of the infection. Swallowing would have been a torture if that had prolonged. Hopefully, I will get my voice back in the next few days.

Down With Flu

Wuan and I have been out the whole day. Although I am not feeling well, which means I should be recuperating at home, we went to Mid Valley Megamall anyway. We should have been at Terence’s wedding reception too but I was not up to it, especially with my persistent coughing. My voice was also beginning to get hoarse. Congratulations, Terence and Saint. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and bliss.

While Wuan and I were browsing at Jusco, a young woman came over to ask if I was Peter Tan. Hello Emily. Thank you for your kind words and compliments. It was nice meeting you. Although I blog more for the memories than anything else, knowing that someone out there likes what I have been writing never fails to induce a warm fuzzy feeling inside me.

PPS 3rd Anniversary Bash

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

Will there be a Project Petaling Street 3rd Anniversary party this year? Suanie, Reta and I were wondering at the bloggers meet last week. The previous bash was a blast. Although the pre-ordered food was slow in coming and some did not even get their food, I am sure all of us who were there will unanimously agree that we had great fun and made many new friends.

As June 23 draws nearer this year, some of us are still anxiously waiting for the announcement from Aizuddin. So far, there has been no news at all. Perhaps he is busy with other commitments. If that is really so, with permission from Aizuddin, perhaps someone can take up the baton and form a committee to get it going. Aiz? Anyone?
