One Chapter Ending And Another Beginning

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Another chapter of my life is coming to a close soon. The extreme enthusiasm in embarking on the next chapter in a month or two from now is such that I am really running ahead of myself. The beginning of this new chapter was already long written by people who loved me so much that they left an enduring legacy for me to build on. The role entrusted to me is to ensure that this chapter concludes with a happy ending.

The requirement to attend the second three hours of Kursus Teori dan Amali JPJL2B has been fulfilled today. The next step is driving lessons. The soonest I can take the driving test is one month from the date of completing the Kursus Teori dan Amali and after having undergone twelve hours of driving lessons. Andy, the driving instructor, has worked out a schedule of eight sessions amounting to twelve hours to fulfill this. One more month…

No rest for the wicked

And suddenly all became calm. This serenity is unsettling. There is a seemingly lack of purpose after the frenzy of the past few weeks. As I try to figure out what the fuss was all about, I feel a sense of emptiness. Or is that a sense of accomplishment misinterpreted?

Public Transportation Masterplan Ready In 9 Months

PUTRAJAYA, March 12 (Bernama) — The government’s public transportation system masterplan is expected to be ready in nine months, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said.

He said the masterplan for the capital cities would ensure a more coordinated and well planned public transportation system for the country.

“The government has made a decision to come out with the masterplan of public transportation system in all the capital cities of the country, from Kangar all the way to Kota Kinabalu,” he told reporters after meeting representatives from the disabled people organisations, services providers and public transportation operators.

He said the decision to come out with the masterplan was made by the Cabinet committee on public transportation a few months ago.

“We are in the midst of appointing a consultant to carry out the works,” he said.

He said the masterplan would also include the needs of the disabled people.

Malaysian public transport to be more disabled-friendly: report

Published: March 12, 2007

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Malaysia will increase accessibility and facilities for the disabled in its public transport system under an upcoming “master plan” for capital cities in the country’s 13 states, a news report said Tuesday.

Consultants hired by the government to run a nine-month study of the country’s public transport systems have been told to include requirements for disabled people in their report to the Cabinet, which will form the basis for the master plan, the New Straits Times reported.

“We want well planned and coordinated transport systems to meet the needs of disabled people,” Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy was quoted as saying.

The master plan for a better system was expected to be sent to the state capitals by the end of 2007, the report added.

At present, facilities vary for people in wheelchairs, the blind, or others with disabilities in Malaysia’s public transport systems. Light rail trains provide access for the disabled, but buses and bus stops make no provisions for those in wheelchairs.

Chan’s aide was not immediately reachable on his mobile phone for further details. It was not clear from the report when the upgraded public transport systems would be implemented.
