Saving RM3 From KL To Penang

August 22nd, 2008 - Friday (59 views)

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi just announced a 15 sen/litre reduction for RON97 petrol from tomorrow. I did a quick calculation. Our fuel-efficient Honda City VTEC guzzles about 20 litres of petrol for a journey from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. 20 litres at the old price of 2.70 is RM54 while at the new price of 2.55 will be RM51. Yay! A savings of RM3.

I am grateful that with the savings from a return trip, Wuan and I can afford one more bowl of hokkien mee and another plate of char kuey teow. Well, they cost around RM3 the last time we had them at Bayan Bay Food Court. That was many years ago. And then again, maybe not since the price of hawker food have been increasing steadily the past few years. By the way, after using petrol from Petronas, Shell and Caltex, we found that Caltex Techron Gold provides power for better acceleration.

Peter, I do suggest try out Mobil/Esso if you may. According to my father and adults, Mobil’s oil is the best in terms of performance to cost ratio.
I can’t sure with this because I’ve been using Mobil oil since the day I started to drive lol.

    Peter:
We have yet to try Mobil/Esso. We certainly will see if it works for us. Thanks for the pointer.

    Drive kancil la. So sarcastic.

    Peter:
If only I can get into a Kancil with the hand control attached. Any idea how to do it Mr. Smarty Pants? By the way, what is Kancil’s fuel consumption like?

An auto-gear (which costs more petrol) Kenari’s (which is bigger and of course cost more petrol) mileage was RM 0.15/km when the pump price was still RM 1.92… I guess Kancil could be RM 0.12 or RM 0.13/km when pump price was RM 1.92… ;) So you do the math… :P

Petronas has one of the most sucky quality… that’s for sure… :)

    I also used Mobil since I drive… influenced by my mother… :D

    Peter:
If your guesstimate is correct, a Kancil (what engine capacity?) can get between 14km/litre to 16km/liter. The Honda City VTEC with conservative city driving can get around 17km/litre. I am sure the City iDSI can give an even better mileage. Yes, I agree that Petronas is not that good. We had to step on the accelerator harder to get the car moving.
