Busted The Bed

December 3rd, 2008 - Wednesday

Two nights ago, the bed creaked when I transferred to it from the wheelchair. I did not give it much thought then as I was worn down by the cold and all I wanted was to curl up in bed and sleep. The next morning was uneventful. As the day dragged by, the weather became more and more humid. All I wanted to do was get into bed again to nurse the cold some more.

As I sat on the bed, it let out a loud creak again. Sensing that something was not right, I got back onto the wheelchair and did a visual inspection of the bed. Nothing seemed out of place. I got back onto the bed. There was the loud creak again as the bed gave way. When I called Wuan in the office to tell her what happened, she could not stop laughing.

She took time off from work to go bed hunting but we could not find a suitable one. For now, the bed is being propped up by red bricks leftover from a renovation of the front yard some time back. We are going bed hunting again this weekend. We prefer a bed built from whole solid wood rather than those made from jointed sections. Hopefully everything will hold up until then.

that’s not a very good bed design… the middle is normally where people sit & press all their weight on… wrong place to put joins la.

get a bed with metal frame. or those divan type like in 5-star hotels. that type is very solid & it won’t break.

tho a couple of my colleagues managed to break a metal frame bed in the hotel during our last company trip… -____-”

Most of the beds at the furniture shop are like that – many smaller sections glued together to make a bigger panel. That is why we are looking for one that is made from a whole piece of wood. That is going to cost a lot more too.
