The Star is well known for its “editing”. Anybody who has been lucky enough to have anything published in the Star will tell you how poor his or her English is when compared to that of their normally verbose and sanctimonious editors.

Yes, I saw your letter in the Star the other day. As far as I know, the editors usually edit the letters so that it fits into “their limited space”. But (!) that doesn’t explain why they should edit your letter until it sounds so … different.

I think the editor’s “edits” on your letter to the Star didn’t do justice to the message you were trying to deliver. I am glad to published your original letter for your readers.

I didn’t know that editors have the prerogative to edit letters meant for publication.Where is the sanctity of writer protected.The burden of responsibility rests on him,the writer, as the published text bears his name but is he also to carry the burden of blame if the text was edited in a way as to be maliciously skewed?

I will just put it up in my blog the next time. Putting my name on something that I did not write verbatim may be risky in certain aspects like you said.
