Monopod

Look what Wuan got for me for Christmas – a monopod to go with my digicam! I do not have a pair of steady hands and have been grappling with camera shake which produced blurry photos, especially in low light. This monopod will not help me take better pictures, but it certainly will help reduce fuzziness in those night shots.

That was not all. Wuan also gave me an extra large box of Toffifee. This is one of the few chocolates that Wuan had initiated me into and one which I really love. I like nuts in my chocolates. Toffifee is the combination of “a crunchy hazelnut in caramel with nougat cream and a drop of dark chocolate on top.” I shall keep it to share with Wuan when she comes to Penang next. After all, good things are meant to be shared with the people we love.

  1. cool gift! I have the same problem with photos and with my cam it’s especially difficult because the autofocus has a mind of its own. But how does the monopod work?

  2. I have not really tested it yet. Basically one end is attached to the camera and the other anchored to the ground, very much like how you would a tripod. It does reduce camera shake significantly but does not eliminate it totally. It all depends on how well you use it to your advantage.

  3. Peter,

Just curious, which brand & model of monopod that Yuan gave you for christmas? I have the Manfrotto 682 monopod, kind heavy, but very useful for me to take pictures especially in motorsport shot.

  4. It is an unbranded monopod. The Manfrotto that I liked was too bulky and heavy and made my little digicam looked out of place. I am using this monopod mostly for low light and night shots.
