Rain, How I Hate And Love You At The Same Time

It has been so long ago since I last played in the rain, get soaked to the skin, shiver in the cold, my hair clinging limply to my scalp, and still enjoy it. The rain and I are not good friends now. I try to avoid it as much as possible. The loss of sensation changed all that. Raindrops pelting my numb skin is a not pleasant feeling anymore. It feels hot. Cold is hot. Hot is hot. The wires are all messed up inside me.

The cold not only makes me shiver. My muscles will tense up. Shortly after, the spasms will hit with a vengenace. My limbs will be involuntarily pulled in ways unimaginable. The agony of cramped muscles is indescribable. The cold then seeps into me and linger there, for a long time. The shivers will not go away even when I am buried under layers of blankets; the spasms the same. The rain, together with the cold, I now avoid like the plague.

The weather has been exceptionally cold the past three days. The air is laden with moisture that makes breathing laborious. Everything is damp. Everything is stone cold. I dislike this rainy season. But when it was hot and dry, I had wished for nothing but for the sky to pour. I needed the moisture. I needed the hydration. I am not fickle. My body just do not adapt to extreme weathers well. For now, I wish for it stop raining for a while, for the sun to come out tomorrow. God knows I need sunshine to drive away this gloom that came with the monsoon. Please?

  1. The good thing about rainy days or nights is that it so nice to have a good afternoon snooze or a good nights rest. Its also hard to wake up in the mornings if it rains- you just feel like having a lie in! Hot days are unpleasant, you perspire all over and don’t feel like doing anything.

    Peter:
It has been raining continuously for several days now. Everything is damp and cold. Not my kind of weather.

  2. Well, I used to love to play under the rain, but after I heard that it will make you bald, I’m like you. I avoid it like a plague.

Pros and cons with this weather, Peter.

    Peter:
Playing in the rain will make you bald? Seriously? No wonder my hair is thinning from all those years under the rain in my teens.

  3. I notice your blog output has increased of late. The rain must have made you do it!! Its good! How about a piece about your school days? Did you ride a motorcycle? I suppose you went round the island with your school friends stopping in balik pulau for laksa and splashing at the famous waterfalls? I still remember the good old days.It was fun and carefree until someone stole of our motorbikes at the springs opposite of the present bayview hotel in batu ferringhi. My bike was next-luckily i had an additional lock round the rear wheels or i would have gotten a bollocking from my parents.

    Peter:
Those were the days, huh. You should start blogging too. You have so many stories to share. I went to Chin Farm a few times, the place where your friends lost their bikes. The waterfall there is nice. I wonder what it has turned into now, with so much development around Batu Ferringhi.

  4. i didn’t know that raindrops could have that effect on numb skin… it sounds v painful… 🙁

    Peter:
In a way, it is painful but I believe my damaged nerves are not sending the correct information to my brain. Other people with spinal cord injury may feel other kind of sensation.
