It has been a long while since I last heard the Penang state anthem. When I logged in just now, there was this inexplicable urge to sing this anthem like how it was during school assemblies. I sang aloud and was surprised that I still remember most of the lyrics. Did a search on YouTube and was even more delighted that it was available in its full glory. I am a contented man this morning.
Untuk Negeri Kita
Selamat Tuhan kurniakan
Selamat Pulau Pinang
Negeriku yang mulia
Ku taat dan setia
Aman dan bahagia
Majulah jayalah
Negeriku yang ku cinta
Bersatu dan bersama
Untuk negeri kita
Your site is cool and well organized. Keep posting.
Peter:
Thank you.
I assume the lyrics are meaningful, would you care to translate it to English? Thanks.
Never heard of this song- must be after my time!!
Peter:
I was already singing this anthem when I was in primary school back in the mid-70s!!!
I shall not reveal my age,I shall not reveal my age, I shall not reveal my age,I shall not reveal my age!!
Peter:
We agak-agak can guess your age lia.
Hello! What a coincidence. I am watching a show on TV about Malay food right now. Anthony Bourdain, don’t know if you have him over there.
Nice to virtually meet you.
Peter:
Yes, we do have Anthony Bourdain shows here. Nice to get to know your blog too. 😀
hi peter,
haven’t kept in touch with you for sometime since the “roundtable” in penang in 2007.
many waters have flowed under the bridge since then, and who would have thought dap
capturing penang back then? well, stranger things have happened! curiously, my 7 yr old son
came back from school singing the state anthem and asked me to sing along. even more curiously,
i could remember all the lyrics from way back 1977/78! it’s true, there’s something in the
lyrics! rgds, take care.
Peter:
Hey Jude, thanks for dropping by. Incidentally, I chatted with Nik Nazmi just this morning.
Some things we do not forget – the state anthem, the great Penang food, the once unspoilt beauty of the beaches and hills. Lets hope the present government will bring back some of Penang’s former glory.
You take care too.
