Sugar Cravings After Meals

Everyday, without fail, I have intense cravings for something sweet after meals. I read somewhere that this condition is the result of hypoglycemia, in layman’s term, low blood sugar. Here is the logic. Blood sugar rises in the blood after meals. The pancreas releases insulin to make cells in the body absorb the extra glucose from the blood. In my case, too much insulin is produced, causing blood sugar level to drop too low. The body attempts to correct this imbalance by triggering the craving for sugary food.

There were times when it got so bad that I became extremely irritable and weak. I practically binged on anything sweet that I could get my hands on – carbonated drinks, chocolates and biscuits. These episodes are not so bad now since I moved in to stay with Wuan. Still, I really need to manage myself better. It is torturous to get these cravings and not having anything sweet in the house to satiate it. We do not keep a lot of snacks here. I need to constantly remind myself to take smaller meals more frequently to maintain a consistent blood sugar level. If I had followed what the dieticians recommended, I would not be in this predicament now. I can already hear them going “Tsk tsk.”
