I will soon create a link aggregator page within this website called the Malaysian Roman Catholic Bloggers Network (MRCBN). The blogs do not necessarily have to be about Roman Catholicism or Christianity. As long as the blogger professes the faith, he is most welcomed to add his details in MRCBN. Bloggers are invited to send me an email with details of their blog names, url, name of parish church and location to be included in this list. I will also gladly add links of overseas bloggers who send me the same information. Links will not be arbitrarily added without the blogger’s consent.
This idea was born out of necessity on my part. When I first arrived in KL, I was looking for a church to attend Mass. There was little detail available on the Internet. Thanks to the information from Mystic and Adriene, I will be attending the 11:30am Mass this Sunday at Church of St. Francis Xavier in Petaling Jaya. The MRCBN can also serve as a launching point for Roman Catholics from all over Malaysia to forge fellowships via cyberspace.
Additionally, I welcome information on the location of Roman Catholic churches in Malaysia. This will be most helpful to those wishing to attend Mass or just visit the churches when they are in the neighbourhood. Please provide the name of the church, name of parish priest, address, telephone number and if possible, the Mass schedule. Please send all emails to mail@petertan.com. actually there is a catholic directory that shows the full details of all the churches in malaysia, including time of masses, but i guess it’s better to have them up online as not many people are aware of that directory. also being online, is easier to access when you are away from home (away from the directory which you keep at home!).

so it’s a good idea, peter, and i support you fully!

Hi Peter. This is Victor who is also a Roman Catholic from Penang who goes to the Church of the Immaculate Conception. I’m now in KL to study and go to the CKK mass celebration in Petaling Jaya. SFX is too far and I can’t get there due to transportation problems.

I’m attending mass at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Johor Bahru and I occasionally attend the afternoon mass at the Cathedral of the Good Sheperd in Singapore (I’m working in Singapore). It’s nice of you to start up this kind of network where Catholics all over Malaysia can meet. This is rather interesting. However, I’m still trying to start an online blog. (I’m very busy at work!) Hi Peter, thanks a lot for your words of encouragement. Yes, I really do hope I can be baptised as a Catholic in the near future. I’ve been trying to be baptised for the past few years. However, I’ve met with a lot of family objections, especially my father and my grandparents. I’m still waiting patiently for this day to come. Actually, I’ve this little story about me & the Catholic faith (I’ll post it up some other day as I don’t have it with me now). Hi Peter, I promised to post my story online. So here is my story (it’s quite long though). Hope that you can give me your comments after you’ve read it.
My Story
I came to know the Catholic faith through my mother. She brought me to church since I was young, to Christmas parties and masses. She even enrolled me into Catechism classes when I was in Pri. 2. Sad to say, I stopped attending Catechism classes when I was in Pri. 6.
After Pri. 6, I was practically “cut-off” from the church for 4 whole years. I didn’t attend weekly masses nor did I attend any more Catechism classes. What I attended was only the Christmas mass yearly. It was only about 2-3 years ago did I really return to church-this was the turning point in my life.
Previously, I did not believe that by prayer, it could help me in my exams or tests. All I thought was that through hard work, I could score well. But I was wrong, I never did well previously. It was due to that I?d usually panic when I see the questions in the paper. One day, my mother gave me a rosary and told me, “Say your prayer before you sit for your paper!” At first, I did not want to believe her, but I was thinking, “Why not give it a try since there’s still quite some time before my paper starts” So I did. Miraculously, it was the first time I could go through the paper like a breeze. What’s more; it was that paper that made me the top student for the subject. Needless to say, I started this little ritual before all my papers for my exams or tests.
Yes, this lead me back to church once more. I started to go back to church to pray to ask God to guide me in my studies. Practically all my results were very good. I started to believe.
This was only one of the miracles that I experienced. I was being robbed about 2 years ago. I was very upset. On that night that I was robbed, I dreamt my rosary was given back to me. I thought it was just a dream, but a few days later, my bag was found and a kind man returned it to me. Till now, I can?t figure the meaning of the dream. It’s just a mystery, yet a miracle. I learnt to pray every night before I sleep. Because of my prayers, no one expected me to recover so quickly. In just a matter of days, I regained my own self
There are still many more small events or incidents that happened to me. I just can’t deny that God is somewhere above watching over me. On some nights, I will scream in my sleep, but I have no nightmare. I will wake up suddenly with my heart beating very fast. I?ve tried to go back to sleep, but I just couldn’t. So, I take out my rosary and say my prayers. Very soon, I will be back at sleep peacefully, with the rosary still clutching in my hands till the next morning.
There was once that I fell very sick and had a bad headache. All I wanted to do is to sleep, but my headache did not go away despite me taking my medication. I repeatedly say the Hail Mary in my head and soon, I fell into deep sleep. There was also once when I was about to fall sick, I was saying the prayers with my mother. Upon saying the prayers, I felt as if all my sickness was taken away from me and I was well.
Because I started my internship only 4 months ago, I was not used to the working life outside, especially in Singapore. I am staying in JB and I travel everyday to work in Singapore. It can be quite tiring sometimes and plus the stress in the office, I fall sick easily. For the first month or so, I was too tired to say my nightly prayers. I just fall asleep when I come home from work. My mother noticed my bible was left untouched for a very long time and she kept on pestering me to read my bible. Finally, I opened the bible after some time and resumed my prayers once again. After resuming my daily prayers, I realized that I do not fall sick easily anymore. I just can?t deny the fact that God is somewhere above watching over me.
In the office, there are so many things happening and so many evil temptations like gambling on 4D, strained relationships amongst co-workers. I do feel frustrated, sad and demoralized at times. I always keep praying and asking God to guide me in everything that I do in office. At times, my prayers seem answered. I feel so much better after praying.
Recently, I had two dreams. One was during Chinese New Year eve. I dreamt that my rosary was broken. I kept on saying that I can be fixed, but I know that it cannot be fixed because my rosary is not those that are strung by beads, but it is glued together one (the cheaper ones). I was shocked when I woke up. I tried asking people what that dream meant, but no one knows. Also, about 2 days later, I dreamt that I was wedded in a very elaborate Catholic wedding that lasted for quite a while. I woke up wondering what it could mean. Till now, I don?t know what these 2 dreams mean.
After all the experiences, it’s hard to run away from the fact that there’s some connection between me and the Catholic faith. I?ve found my way back to the church and I am sure that the Catholic faith is what I am in for. When the youth priest in my church told me that I was eligible for the RCIA, I was elated. But, there are other factors I’ve got to think of. My grandparents, my dad etc. After I attended the mass on one Saturday where I witnessed the children being baptised and are able to receive the Holy Communion, I thought, ?Why am I enduring this painful journey when I am actually 2 persons spiritually? Why can’t I just be 1 person?” I recall having this dream once. A dream that I was talking to someone over the phone telling me that no one can actually make this type of choices for you. It’s all up to you to decide on it. The control lies in your hands.
There’s really nothing much I can do now. My parents still have the final say in the things that I do. I know that my family won’t really like it and I don’t want to have any more arguments with my family over this matter. All I can do now is to wait and continue praying. I really don’t know what lies ahead of me. But, there’s this dream and wish in my heart, a dream that I’ll become a Catholic someday. A wish and dream that I hope it will be fulfilled.

In the mean time… I think it would be good to have an online directory of our churches. KL Archdiocese has a website (http://www.archway.org.my) with a fairly good information on parishes. However, some of the information is not the latest and updated. This was the last time that I checked. Perhaps by now it is more updated.
Does Penang Diocese has an website of its own? As far as I know Johor-Melaka does not have one. At least not that I am awared of.
It would be great for all the dioceses in Malasysia to have some form of online resources at the national-level to foster mutual understanding of our Malaysian church. This include Sabah and Sarawak.
I have the privilege to attend mass in a number of churches throughout Malaysia due to nature of my work. I find it an enriching experience to be able to participate in broader the church. The good thing about this is that I learn to be opened to different expression of the singing in the mass. The liturgy is of course universal. It is a humbling experience because in larger parishes, the singing is dynamic with various instruments, while in some “poorer” parishes, some time it seems boring but it make me realised the significant of the mass minus the trapping of riches.
Ok, I have shared too long for a first timer but may you continue to be blessed always even in the difficulties that you are experiencing.

I must commend you for the great initiative in setting up the MRCBN. I can fully understand the frustration of oneself trying to locate a church or the time of masses in a new area.
The only Cathedral in Kuching is St Joseph’s Cathedral at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg. Time of masses are as follows:

There is a Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Johor Bahru. It is located at Taman Seri Tebrau. There is another church located in Plentong, a smaller one which has the ‘Shepherd’ in its name. I can’t remember it now. It slipped off my mind. Will let you know in due course.

hi,just to let you know that i am currently living in Seremban,attending Church of Visitation.My husband and I are from Penang. Seremban is a wonderful place to live because it has a beautiful church – The Church of Visitation. The priests there are Father Albert and Father Michael Chuah.I find them to be very caring priests and they are very open minded too. Mass schedules are Saturdays at 6pm (English mass) , Sundays – 7.30am Tamil mass, 9.00am English mass and 10.00am Mandarin mass. There are also masses conducted in Bahasa Malaysia and masses for the migrants like the Indonesians, Phillipinos and others.
