A Bible In The Mail

January 2nd, 2004 - Friday

This came in the mail just now. I confided in Pauline that I was looking for a Bible for my Catechism and she immediately offered to send me one. This Readers Edition of The New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) is just perfect for my Bible studies. It is a revision of the Jerusalem Bible that was prepared by Roman Catholic scholars in Great Britain. Thank you Pauline, for this very beautiful copy of the Bible.

While Googling for more information on the NJB, I came across this little tidbit - J.R.R. Tolkien was one of the authors who worked on it. Yes! Tolkien of the Lord of the Rings fame.

juz curious, are there differences in contents between all different bibles?

I do not know because I am just starting to learn about the Bible. Perhaps someone knowledgeable out there can enlighten us both?

  3. Pauline Says:

The Catholic Bible has 7 more books than the Protestant Bible. These books are called APOCRYPHA or DEUTEROCANONICALS. They were added to the original 66 books at a later date and the Catholic Church considered these books inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Protestants do NOT regard these books as inspired. Hence they are not in the Protestant Bible.
This is what I learnt from someone whom I consider “knowledgeable”. Hope my sharing helps.
